Cardio sonographer uses high frequent sound waves to get clear images of heart and this will help in starting treatment to heart diseases, heart attack and vascular diseases that may lead to heart attack. It is different from x-rays in the sense that it does not involve radiation imaging modality.
Stress Echocardiogram: This type of sonography is taken to know the functioning of heart at stress. The images taken will help the physician to understand the blood flow in your heart when you work harder.
During this test, the cardio sonographer will apply a gel in the chest and then he will attach a small device called transducer in your chest. This will help to transmit ultra sound waves that reflect various parts of heart. The reflection or echo is translated into images and will be shown in the screen. The sonographer will move the transducer to various parts of the chest o get clear images of heart from different angles. This type of sonography will not provide any images of coronary arteries. But if your physician requires knowing about such diseases, further diagnosis will be made.
In order to take treadmill stress echocardiogram, the sonographer will instruct you to walk on the treadmill. He will then gradually increase the speed. Then he will administer you with Dobutamine through intravenous injection. Then images will be obtained with the help of the transducer.
There are no special preparations needed for this scanning. However the sonographer may instruct you not to eat or drink anything before 4 hours of scanning. The caffeine product consumption must be stopped before 12 hours.
Cardio sonograph will help the physician to learn about your EKG, blood pressure and also to know about your heart functioning at rest and at stress. This will help him to plan for accurate treatment to you.
Echocardiogram will also help in detecting hypertrophy cardiomyopathy. The sonographer will help the doctor by taking images of heart. This will help the doctor to know the thickness of heart muscles and to know whether there is any blockage in the heart valves.
