Are you one of those people who are affected by the scourge of Gilbert’s disease? Do you feel that you are helpless against the pain and discomfort that it brings? If you do, here are the top three sets of questions that you might want to ask and be answered. Through these, you can get direct answers to questions that hound your mind and can even help you recover-emotionally-as well.

Question number 1: “What causes Gilbert’s disease? Do a viral infection or bacteria cause this condition or can this be passed on in some other way? Is Gilbert’s disease a chronic disease?”

Answer: the abnormal number of the bilirubin in the blood causes Gilbert’s disease, it is not caused by any viral or bacterial infection. It can be passed on through the blood. Gilbert’s disease is known to be hereditary and it remains dormant inside the body for a long time.

Question number 2: “How can you find out if you already have Gilbert’s disease? Are the symptoms of Gilbert’s disease can be associated with jaundice and other liver diseases is this true? How does one find out if his or her condition is Gilbert’s disease? Are there any specific symptoms?”

Answer: You need to be aware of the differences between the symptoms and the signs that are associated with Gilbert’s disease and other liver diseases. Even though, there similarities the differences are also there. Unfortunately, Gilbert’s disease sharing the same symptoms with other diseases is true but if you can look into it further you can spot the minute difference.

Question number 3: “Is there any new method to alleviate, or treat, the symptoms of Gilbert’s disease – yellow eyes, stomach pains and uneasiness? Is it due to the excessive amounts of bilirubin in the blood?”

Answer: You have my understanding. This inherited condition (hereditary) affects just about two to five per cent of the population. It is considered that the situation occurs as a result of troubles in metabolizing the bilirubin. There are more than a few forms of the condition that can be distinguished on biochemical testing. As an outcome, the levels rise and clinical jaundice that you graphically depict occurs.

The condition appears to be not as good as after fasting and during a mild illness. The jaundice then fades instinctively. There is no cure. You ask particularly if there is any new way to reduce the symptoms. I feel sorry that I have been unable to find out if there are any commercial or clinical treatment for Gilbert’s disease.

This condition though is a fairly common sickness mostly amongst the Caucasian population. It’s passed down all the way through families and not frequently considered being life menacing, but ought to still be diagnosed by a medical doctor. The syndrome compromises the body’s capacity to process bilirubin in the liver and causes jaundice. Bilirubin is the yellow substance found in bile. Although the main and most general symptom is jaundice, there are as well quite a lot of other symptoms that you and your physician should be on the lookout for if you think you could have the syndrome.

You have to be very vigilant when it comes to understanding Gilbert’s disease and the knowledge related to it because it changes constantly as doctors learn more about it. be aware that what can be the truth about it today can be different tomorrow.

There are times when people go through a certain stage in their lives when they need to understand and adjust to certain changes in the way that they live. Some people are burdened with adjusting to getting married, losing a loved one or acquiring a disease or a medical condition. Of all the three, getting diagnosed with a medical condition can be the hardest to adjust to especially if you found out that you have been living with it for all your life. Hereditary diseases like Gilbert’s disease are one of those that we can acquire and not know about for a long time.

One of the reasons why we can live without knowing the presence of Gilbert’s disease is that the condition itself has no symptom or noticeable effect. Some people can even live through the rest of their lives without even knowing.

Just because it has no symptom it doesn’t mean that it should not be consulted. People sometimes have the wrong notion of not going to a specialist if they suspect that they have Gilbert’s disease. So why is it important to have your condition diagnosed? Well there are several reasons but let’s just look at one and that is for proper identification of the solution for the the problem, once we have the right diagnosis we can move on to taking care of the person who is sick.

Exclusion of other conditions

While this syndrome Gilbert’s disease is considered to be harmless by itself, it is clinically important to be diagnosed and identified correctly because it may be confused with much more dangerous liver conditions. However, these will show other indicators of liver dysfunction:

- Hemolysis can be excluded by a full blood count, haptoglobin, lactate dehydrogenase levels and the absence of reticulocytosis (elevated reticulocytes in the blood would usually be observed in haemolytic anaemia);

- Hepatitis can be excluded by negative blood samples for antigens specific to the different hepatitis vira;

- Cholestasis can be excluded by the absence of lactate dehydrogenase, low levels of conjugated bilirubin and ultrasound scan of the bile ducts;

- More severe types of glucoronyl transferase disorders like Crigler-Najjar syndrome (types I and II). These are much more severe and cause brain damage in infancy (type I) and teenage years (type II);

Other diseases of the liver can be exluded by the liver-enzymes ALAT, ASAT and albumin being within normal ranges.

Findings specific to Gilbert’s syndrome

Patients with Gilbert’s disease show predominantly elevated unconjugated bilirubin. While conjugated is usually within normal ranges and form less than 20 percent of the total. The level of total bilirubin is often increased if the blood sample is taken after fasting for two days, and a fast can therefore be useful diagnostically. If the total bilirubin does in fact increase while fasting, the patient can then be given low doses of phenobarbital when fasting has ended, and following samples should show a decrease in total bilirubin toward normal levels.

Once the findings have been reported, the patient with Gilbert’s disease should be more careful and should follow what the physician says. It will also be helpful for him or her to conduct a research so he or she can take care of themselves at home or if they cannot go to the doctor regularly. It is also best to watch diet carefully, conduct regular exercise, and take necessary medications or undergo treatments when needed.

Unpopular diseases such as Gilbert’s disease can be alarming once you are diagnosed with it because you will never know what will happen to you. Upon hearing that you are or you might be suffering from it, it can be hard to accept it because you don’t know what to do.

To ease the burden that people with Gilbert’s disease, doctors try to explain everything about the condition in layman’s terms. And one of the easiest ways to understand it is if it is compared to more common diseases that have similarities in it like jaundice.

What Gilbert’s disease is all about

Gilbert’s disease was first described by a French gastroenterologist names Augustin Nicolas Gilbert in 1901. Gilbert’s disease is an asymptomatic (no external symptoms) condition affecting the liver. The condition affect an enzyme in the body called urodine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase or UGT (abbreviation). UGT aids the liver in breaking down bilirubin which is found also in the blood stream.

Bilirubin is the waste product of the hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin is found in the red blood cells that carry oxygen to other cells in the body to complete the cycle of respiration. After the red blood cells successfully brought the oxygen to the other parts of the body, the blood produces bilirubin. The liver cells then collect all the bilirubin produced by the blood, transfer it to the liver to be broken down into the gut, and turned to bile.

This is where UGT or urodine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase comes in, it helps the liver cells process the bilirubin in to bile. Gilbert’s disease affects the production of UGT, this is because it fluctuates the production of UGT in the body. The fluctuating levels of UGT greatly affect the levels of bilirubin retained in the blood. Bilirubin is orangey- yellow in color, which in turn causes a patient to have jaundiced skin.

What is jaundice?

Jaundice is the condition of the blood that has external manifestations. The two most common manifestation of Jaundice is the yellowing of the skin and in the white of the eyes. Jaundice if one of the most common symptoms or manifestations of different liver diseases and sometimes it may be the cause of some discomfort among patients. The heightened bilirubin stores in the body and in the bloodstream causes jaundice but it usually has no serious effects and it can occur in people more than once in their entire lifetime. Mild jaundice is not always caused by diseases of the liver there are times when it may happen under conditions of over exertion, long term stress, intense fasting, and other bodily infections, but the condition is otherwise shows no external manifestations.

It happens when there is a flaw in the liver that averts from removing bilirubin from the blood, to be converted to glucuronic acid (conjugated) or excreted in bile in this case if the person has Gilbert’s disease.

Lastly, when there is obstruction of the bile ducts that reduces the stream of bile and bilirubin from the liver into the guts. The decreased conjugation, emission, or gush of bile that can result in jaundice refers to cholestasis: however, cholestasis does not always effect in jaundice.

Jaundice or cholestasis, by themselves, causes just a few problems (excluding the conditions of newborns, and jaundice in this case in newborns is different from most other types of jaundice.) Jaundice can make the skin and the whites of the eyes look sclera yellow. As well, stool can turn out to be light in color, even clay-colored because of the lack of bilirubin that usually gives stool its brown color. The urine may become dark or brownish in color. This takes place when the bilirubin that is building up in the blood starts to be excreted from the body in the urine.

Other than those scenarios there is not much to worry about if you have Gilbert’s disease, you may experience a jaundiced appearance but you can still enjoy a healthy life.

People have long asked about how exactly does Gilbert’s disease affect us in our daily lives? Well these questions have also concerned doctors and medical experts for the longest time. This because of the peculiarity of the condition itself, Gilbert’s disease is hereditary in nature yet unlike other hereditary diseases it does not have any major effects on the body. To further understand the structure and the inner workings of the condition here are some of the facts revolving around it so you will be better informed.

Gilbert’s Syndrome

Gilbert syndrome is frequently an autonomic recessive disorder and is a familiar origin of unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia. There has been some information of heterozygous cases, mostly in Asian populations. Gilbert’s disease was named after the French gastroenterologist Augustin Nicolas Gilbert in 1901. The presence of Gilbert’s disease in a global scale is three to eight percent depending on the area of the diagnostic criteria was used:

1. Genetics. The reason for the body contacting high bilirubin levels is because of the fluctuating levels of UGT or urodine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase in the liver and the blood stream. UGT is an enzyme that aids the liver in breaking down bilirubin. Bilirubin is the waste product of the hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin is used to carry oxygen in our bloodstream.

- Hepatic glucuronidation (essential for conjugating bilirubin) is concentrated to minimal levels to around 30 percent of standard; and – In addition to their reduced Bilirubin-UGT enzyme activity, most patients with Gilbert’s syndrome may have irregularities in the glucuronidation of aspirin or derivatives of coumarin and dopamine.

2. Presentation. It can stay overlooked for many years, but more often than not makes its manifestation in adolescence with:

- Irregular jaundice noticed after fasting, being short of of sleep, hearty exercise or during an intercurrent sickness. – Contacting certain medications may aid in the manifestation of jaundice e.g. chemotherapy. Unfavorable effects of anticancer agents have been observed in Gilbert’s patients owing to reduced drug or bilirubin glucuronidation.

There is hope

Despite other distinctive results related to Gilbert’s disease include jaundice, nausea, exhaustion, instability, bowel complaints, queasiness and vomiting, and difficulty concentrating. Investigations associated with the condition include: full blood count proves usual reticulocyte count – to differentiate from haemolysis; a climb in bilirubin on fasting or after IV nicotinic acid can corroborate the conclusion; additional liver function tests (as well as lactate dehydrogenase) and liver biopsy are regular, but the latter should hardly ever be required clinically; and absence of bilirubin and abnormally low amounts of urobilinogen in the urine.

The good news for people with Gilbert’s disease is that they really don’t have much to worry about since the damage done by Gilbert’s disease is almost non threatening. No healing is required and life expectation is normal. Bear in mind also that not all the people who are affected by Gilbert’s disease show signs and symptoms at all. Although asymptomatic Gilbert’s disease all the way through one’s life is very exceptional, there can positively be periods of time a patient has no external signs of the disease.

Absolutely no treatment is required for the condition. Patients with Gilbert’s disease can normally lead healthy lives. Their life expectancy is not really affected. Mild jaundice may recur from time to time for short periods, but usually causes no health problems.

Many of us are afraid of having any kinds of diseases. This is because of the very hectic and fast paced lifestyle that people have today. Because of the kind of lifestyle that most people have, one can easily be left behind because of a minor setback like the flu or a cold. There are a lot of viruses that can affect us in all of our surroundings. You could be sitting quietly in your garden when a mosquito suddenly bit you and because of that bite you got infected with malaria. This is just on of the hundreds of real life scenarios that have caused illness to people. But with a little carefulness and a lot of prevention, these situations can be easily avoided. But for other conditions that are hereditary like the Gilbert’s disease a person can only do so much.

Hereditary medical conditions can be described as a disaster waiting to happen or a bomb waiting to explode. This is because the nature of most hereditary conditions is benign and dormant. A person can go on half their life without them knowing that in a few years they could be suffering horribly. The healing process takes years and it takes a lot of patience and understanding between the families and friends.

The real key to understanding the condition is by understanding the syndrome itself and putting yourself to the pinnacle of caring for your loved one. People with Gilbert’s disease and other hereditary diseases rarely fully recover from their conditions and some relatives just give up on their family members. That’s the reason why people should be really up to the task of taking care of the afflicted person for almost the rest of their lives.

To better understand the effects and the Gilbert’s disease a person must know the kind of condition a person afflicted with the disease feels. Commonly Gilbert’s disease is a common disorder passed down through each generation of families that attacks the way bilirubin is processed by the liver and this offensive against the liver’s processing may also lead to called jaundice.

Other names that we can call it

In the field of medicine, Gildbert’s disease comes in many names. Some of which in include “Icterus intermittens juvenilis,” “low-grade chronic hyperbilirubinemia,” “familial non-hemolytic-non-obstructive jaundice,” “constitutional liver dysfunctions,” “unconjugated benign bilirubinemia” among others. Although the names of the condition vary, they are all believed to have the same effect and symptoms as Gilbert’s disease.

Unveiling its causes

Gilbert’s disease affects up to 10% of some Caucasian populations this means that for every one hundred people ten of them suffer from the disease. The causes of the condition are still a bit of a mystery, one thing that is for sure is that it is hereditary. Signs and symptoms include mild jaundice (this is the yellowing of skin and whites of eyes), and fatigue.

It is really a trying and hard syndrome to over come, some people takes years to notice that they have Gilbert’s disease, and when they do find out sometimes it’s too late to be treated. Even though Gilbert’s disease can change a person’s way of life the understanding and the commitment of the family should also be there. For those who might be suffering from this condition, it is best to consult a licensed physician before jumping to any conclusions or before taking in any form of treatment and medication.

There are quite a number in the American population that had been affected since their time of birth by this condition, Gilbert’s disease affects about two to five percent of the population in the United States alone. To better understand what it is and how it affects the people ridden with the condition, here are some of the frequently asked questions about Gilbert’s disease.

1. What is Gilbert’s disease? Gilbert’s disease is known to be one of the causes of mild jaundice once in a while. It is typically not dangerous and has no need for treatment. It is due to a condensed amount of a compounds in the liver, which processes a breakdown result of blood cells called bilirubin. Gilbert’s disease is a condition wherein the liver has a problem in breaking down the bilirubin completely.

2. Where did the name Gilbert’s disease came from? In 1901, a French gastroenterologist named Augustin Nicolas Gilbert and his co-workers described the differences in the symptoms of Gilbert’s disease and the other liver diseases. He also provided additional information on how to acquire it and it’s further transmission.

3. What is bilirubin and what happens to a person with Gilbert’s disease? Bilirubin is continuously made inside our bodies, it is a form of end product. It is the waste product of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a compound that is found in every person’s red blood cells and it is responsible for carrying oxygen to the other cells in the body. Many of the red blood cells that we have and the hemoglobin break down each day and as a result bilirubin needs constant disposal. Bilirubin get carried to the bloodstream and into the liver where it is taken in by liver cells. The liver breaks down the bilirubin further into the gut and to bile. An enzyme or a chemical compound that can be found in liver cells called urodine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) aides the liver cells to break down the bilirubin. People with Gilbert’s syndrome have a reduced level of UGT and so bilirubin can build up in the bloodstream. High levels of bilirubin in the blood causes jaundice.

4. Who gets Gilbert’s disease? Gilbert’s syndrome is a very common hereditary condition that means there is no way to prevent or to treat the condition was it has been passed on to the next generation. About 1 in 20 people have this syndrome – but most will not be aware of it. It is more common in men than women. It is often first diagnosed in the late teens or early twenties.

5. What are the symptoms of Gilbert’s disease? More often than not, none. Unfortunately, the specific symptoms related to Gilbert’s disease is not as easy to spot and monitor like in other diseases. Gilbert’s disease can be very dormant in terms of symptoms that it can manifest in a person for several years with them knowing it.

6. How different is it from jaundice? Jaundice is caused by the excessive levels of bilirubin in the body, more specifically the blood. Because people with Gilbert’s disease have fluctuating levels of UGT or urodine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase, the build up and the manifestation of Jaundice can’t really be used to gauge the severity of a person with Gilbert’s disease’s condition. Aside from the discomfort and stomach pains most of the other signs of having Gilbert’s disease can be associated with other conditions.

Gilbert’s disease is a condition that has closely related symptoms as jaundice, in fact there had been several studies that say that some cases of jaundice is caused by Gilbert’s disease. A very thin line separates the two conditions and without professional help one may not be able to understand and determine which condition they are afflicted with.

It’s difficult to understand why it is important to know the right condition you have if two conditions barely have a difference. The importance of knowing the right conditions that you are afflicted with is that knowing what condition you have can lead to easier treatment. Treating certain conditions requires knowing exactly the type of condition that you are experiencing. You can’t really treat a flu with cough medicine right? It goes the same with every kind of condition that people experience.

Unfortunately though some conditions may not have a treatment or a cure. One of those conditions is Gilbert’s disease. This condition is not really damaging or harmful to the patient but it still causes a lot of discomfort. Gilbert’s disease causes fatigue and jaundice to a person.

Even if some conditions have no known cure or treatments it is still important to have it diagnosed properly to learn more about the condition and find a cure in the future. Going back to Gilbert’s disease if it has no known cure or treatment why do people still to have it diagnosed. For experts to be able to find more about the condition and to be able to find out more about how to treat it.

How do you find out if you are suffering from Gilbert’s disease? Is there a proven way to pinpoint the condition if Gilbert’s disease shares the same symptoms with jaundice? There is and you can consider following it if you have the time to examine yourself. Here is a short list of the ways and the steps to go through to systematically to find out if you have Gilbert’s disease.

Step number 1: If you have an inkling that you have Gilbert’s disease and you also found out that your family has a history of having it too, you should immediately look for the signs and symptoms of the diseases. One of the symptoms you have to look for is the symptom of jaundice. Those signs are yellowish skin and yellowish eyeballs, it may also be accompanied by swollen mucus membranes and running nose. Another symptom is fatigue due to physical stress (exercise, general stress, and illness). Other symptoms to look for include nausea, general sleepiness or tiredness, pain in the body.

Step number 2: Visit your family doctor and tell him about the symptoms and the signs that you are experiencing. You should also tell your doctor about your suspicion and your family history. This may narrow down the search for the condition you are experiencing. Telling your doctor your suspicions may help out a lot.

Step number 3: Besides testing the physical symptoms, your doctor will let you go through an indirect bilirubin blood test that will say whether the disease is at hand.

Step number 4: Once diagnosed, though there isn’t a treatment for the condition your doctor can still treat the jaundice and the help relieve the pain or discomfort associated with the abdominal symptoms of Gilbert’s disease that can be present.

There are a lot of diseases that can be identified with the liver and it’s functions, one of those diseases is called Gilbert’s disease. There had been reports and studies that tried to connect Jaundice and Gilbert’s disease with each other. Some experts would like to have a broad grasp on this issue and have yet to close their books on it and accept the fact that the two are connected.

One of the reasons why there are still experts that stand their ground when it comes to the supposed connection is because of the lack of negative effects on the body of Gilbert’s disease. Gilbert’s disease can cause jaundice and fatigue and that’s the most of it. Some experts are still trying to find out if there are still other effects.

What exactly can Gilbert’s syndrome do to the body? Gilbert’s disease produces an elevated level of unconjugated bilirubin in the bloodstream but normally has no serious or damaging consequence. Mild jaundice may appear under conditions of exertion, stress, fasting, and infections, but the condition is otherwise asymptomatic.

It has been reported that GS may contribute to an accelerated onset of neonatal jaundice. Here are some signs and symptoms as well as other means of prevention or treatment that are still debated until now:

1. Diffuse symptoms. Some people report diffuse symptoms related to Gilbert’s disease, but no clear adverse symptoms related to Gilbert’s disease in adults have been found in scientific studies. This has led some to dispute whether Gilbert’s disease should classify as a disease.

2. Prevention. The unfortunate thing about Gilbert’s disease is that there has been no known prevention method, and because there had been no known way to prevent the condition getting it is inevitable. Another reasons for inevitability on its victim’s health is the fact that it is hereditary.

3. Support groups. Many of our relatives and friends who are sick are need of people around them that can make them feel that everything is going to be all right. It is what we call a support group. A support group can have members who are also afflicted by the disease, family members, doctors and other people that can give kind words and supportive comments to people who feel like it is the end of the world for them.

4. Treatment. Because of the nature of Gilbert’s disease and the least harmful effects it has on a patient’s body the treatment for Gilbert’s disease does not really exist. But when a person is afflicted by Gilbert’s disease the treatment focuses on the underlying conditions that develop the jaundice and other treatments focus on the liver itself. More and more people also take in dietary supplements to help make their livers more stable and healthy despite the affliction of Gilbert’s disease.

Though it is not something that can be cured, Gilbert’s disease is still a serious matter that people should take into account. More and more people are suffering from it and it is causing some people great discomfort. Although Gilbert’s disease does not have adverse effects on the patient’s body there is still a little window of sadness and suffering that they go through. The best cure for this condition is not really the expensive treatments, the medications or the dietary supplements. The best help and relief that we can give to patient’s suffering from Gilbert’s disease are the support and understanding that we have for them.

But conditions like Gilbert’s disease and other forms of liver disease makes our livers weak and prone to breaking down.

To understand better how the liver is affected by different kinds of diseases and the impact of these conditions to our body. Liver disease is a general term used in describing any kind of sickness affecting the liver. Many of theses conditions are accompanied by jaundice caused by the heightened levels of bilirubin in the system. The bilirubin is the product of the breakup of the hemoglobin of dead red blood cells; usually, the liver takes away bilirubin from the blood and excretes it through bile.

The following are some of the known conditions that are considered as liver diseases:

- Hepatitis. This is the inflammation of the liver. This caused mainly by different kinds of viruses, there are also times that it is caused by some poisons, even hereditary conditions.

- Cirrhosis. This is the formation of fibrous tissue in the liver, the fibrous tissue takes the place of dead liver cells.

- Haemochromatosis. This is a hereditary disease caused by too much iron in the body causing liver damage.

- Cancer of the liver. This is usually coming from other parts of the body that is also affected by cancer. Usually, when cancer cells metastasis, it reaches the liver and it starts spreading from there.

- Wilson’s disease. This condition is hereditary and copper deposits in the body cause it.

- Budd-Chiari syndrome. This is caused by the obstruction of the person’s hepatic vein.

- Gilbert’s syndrome. This is a genetic disorder of bilirubin metabolism, found in about 5 percent of the population.

- Glycogen storage disease type II. Here, the build-up of glycogen causes progressive tissue weakness (myopathy) throughout the body and affects various body tissues, particularly in the heart, skeletal muscles, liver and nervous system.

There are also many pediatric liver diseases, including biliary atresia, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, alagille syndrome, and progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis, to name but a few.

A number of liver function tests are available to test the proper function of the liver. These test for the presence of enzymes in blood that are normally most abundant in liver tissue, metabolites or products.

Symptoms of a diseased liver

There are a few external signs that we could include to determine a diseased liver, some of those external signs are a coated tongue, bad breath, skin rashes, itchy skin, excessive sweating, offensive body odor, dark circles under the eyes, red swollen and itchy eyes, acne rosacea, brownish spots and blemishes on the skin, flushed facial appearance or excessive facial blood vessels.

There are other symptoms to look out for and they include jaundice, dark urine, pale stool, bone loss, easy bleeding, itching, small, spider-like blood vessels visible in the skin, enlarged spleen, fluid in the abdominal cavity, chills, pain from the biliary tract or pancrea, and an enlarged gallbladder.

The improper digestion and absorption of fats may lead to symptoms that include indigestion, reflux, hemorrhoids, gall stones, intolerance to fatty foods, intolerance to alcohol, nausea and vomiting attacks, abdominal bloating, and constipation. Unfortunately, some liver diseases like Gilbert’s disease are known to share symptoms with other liver diseases. So it’s better to consult a professional.

Many people ask about Gilbert’s disease and how it affects a person, a lot of people are concerned about having it because there is a little knowledge that can be found about it and there only been a handful of people that are aware that they have it.

How can Gilbert’s disease go on unnoticed?

One of the main characteristics of Gilbert’s disease is that it is asymptomatic or it carries no symptoms in most patients. This makes detection and diagnosis really difficult for the doctors and for medical experts. Being asymptomatic in nature makes Gilbert’s disease one of the few conditions that little are known about. Clinical studies and experimentation is always important in the curing and early detection because the baseline for the condition can be set, the proper dosage for the medication and the duration of the treatment can be directed.

Another factor for the stealth of Gilbert’s disease is that it has no long term or short term damaging effects to people. This means that patients can live healthy and normal lives and even live to a ripe old age with no hindrances from the condition. The only clear indication that a person has Gilbert’s disease is if they have experienced jaundice. With only minor stomach pains and yellowish skin and eyes, Gilbert’s disease causes no great concern to some people.

Other symptoms connected to the condition is uncommon

The person suffering jaundice because of Gilbert’s disease does not usually cause any major problems, Jaundice is the condition where a person suffers from yellowish skin and eyes and a little stomach pain. However, a number of people with Gilbert’s disease account other symptoms, the majority of these symptoms are: tiredness, mild weakness, mild abdominal pains and mild nausea. It is not apparent whether these symptoms are in fact connected to Gilbert’s disease. It is likely that they will build up from time to time due to unsupported nervousness concerning the condition. There does not appear to be any association amid these symptoms and the level of bilirubin in the blood. That is, these symptoms may develop irrelevant to whether or not the level of bilirubin is high or normal.

If the height of bilirubin goes higher than a definite level you turn out to be jaundiced. This is because bilirubin is an orangey-yellow color. A few people with Gilbert’s disease grow to be a little jaundiced now and then. This might appear to be upsetting, but is of little alarm if the cause is Gilbert’s disease. It is quite common to be jaundiced if you are a patient of Gilbert’s disease.

More on the process of breaking down the bilirubin

Jaundice-a condition brought about by high levels of bilirubin in the blood stream. For people suffering from Gilbert’s disease it is caused by the inability of the liver to produce an enzyme that breaks down the bilirubin in the blood and to transfer it to the gut in the form of bile-can be caused by a lot of different diseases of the liver and blood. As a result, if you contract jaundice you are expected to call for tests to make clear the reason and to discard the chance of a serious disease. A blood test can more often than not confirms the diagnosis of Gilbert’s disease as it demonstrates a mildly raised level of bilirubin and confirms the non-existence of a serious disease.
