Birth control can be done by using a birth control patch or a birth control pill. There are barrier methods that can be used. This method involves the use of condoms, sponges, cervical caps, dental dams, diaphragms, etc. Detailed information regarding some birth control measures has been provided. This information can prove extremely useful to women.

Under barrier methods is included the use of condoms. A male condom is a kind of a covering that is put on the penis before penetration has taken place. This prevents the occurrence of pregnancy. The passage of the sperm is blocked by the male condom. On the other hand, a female condom acts as a covering that is made up of lubricated polyurethane. The shape of the male and female condom is very similar. The closed end is put into the vagina whereas the open end remains on the outward side. Both these condoms can be bought without a prescription. A prescription is needed to purchase a diaphragm. It is used so that the uterus remains out of reach of the sperm. Other barrier methods use dental dams, sponge or a cervical cap.

At times, emergency birth control is required. Even today there happen to be some women who are unaware of the existence of emergency birth control measures. These measures are usually adopted in case of a pregnancy that has not been planned. The treatment is useful if it is taken within a period of 3 days after unprotected sex has taken place. Emergency birth control is usually advised in case of unprotected sex, or if the condom is broken, or if rape has occurred or sexual assault takes place. Emergency Birth Control requires the women to take a number of pills.

Another method of birth control is the oral contraceptive. It is often referred to as the Pill. It’s a pill that’s very popular among women nowadays. Its popularity is mainly because it is a birth control method that can be reversed when required. And its effectiveness is about hundred percent. Ovulation is suppressed by the use of this pill. Due to this, egg is not released for fertilization. Birth control has proved to be a boon to all women in general. It has contributed immensely to their sexual freedom.
