High Energy X Rays

High energy X-rays are also known as HEX-rays. The high energy X-rays are very potent and strong types of X-rays. These X-rays are higher in energy as compared to the normal X-rays. The order of the magnitude is said to be higher between 80 keV to 1000 keV. The X-rays increase in their energy levels as the wavelength of light decreases. Therefore, since X-rays are smaller in their wavelengths, they are said to be higher in the energy levels as compared to the ultraviolet rays.

The higher energy X-rays are effective in deep penetration into any substance. Therefore, they are majorly used for investigation. The scattering angles of these high energy X-rays is very small. Any diffraction of these rays is always directed forward and therefore enables for simple detector setups. These rays are also very effecting for all the operations in air.

The strongly reduced photo absorption cross section enables the high penetration of the X-rays through any material, which is widely used for the medical diagnosis, for the bones etc. This property of the high energy X-rays has proved to be boon for achieving different purposes.

The high energy X-ray is also used for the structural investigation. The investigation is done of the materials like the metals or ceramics and the liquids. They are used for the studies of phase transitions. They are also used for investing the texture and the structure of the geological samples that are bound be very thick consisting of heavy elements.

The advantage of the high energy X-rays is that they give an easy access to the both, the electronic as well as nuclear high-energy spectroscopic levels. The studying of liquid materials along with amorphous and nanocrystalline materials is made possible due to the accessibility of the high momentum transfers with the help of incident waves that also poses high momentum. This also helps greatly in the PDF analysis.

The benefits of these high energy X-ray is that no radiation damage is done to the materials through which these X-rays pass and are therefore allowed to pass through the chemical compounds that are to be analyzed without causing any damage to it.
