If you are looking into the world of aromatherapy, there are a lot of pointers that you should know. You will need to do your research into the different types of oils, what to do with them once you get them and how to make them work to their fullest ability. Of course, you will also need to know how to select the right kind of aromatherapy products, too. If you choose cheap oils and poorly made products, you will not get what you need out of these essential oils.

So, how do you know how to do this? Do you know how to select good quality products when it comes to essential oils and aromatherapy? Maybe not, but it is not too difficult if you follow these tips.

Know the seller: This is the first rule of thumb when it comes to choosing authentic products. They are widely available and some are certainly better than others. Essential oils can be bought in your craft section at your local Wal-Mart, but are these the good quality ones that you need? Probably not. There are also online dealers, mail order companies and websites that sell these products. The quietly can certainly vary, so you need to do your research and find out which ones sell the products you want to buy. If you do choose to buy less expensive oils or other products, you may not like the results. Once you find a good seller, build a good relationship with this person or company and continue to use the person you trust the most.

You may wonder how to tell whether or not the oils you buy are the highest of quality. When purchasing oils that are inexpensive, you may end up getting old oils, oils that are not stored properly or even oils that have been pressed or distilled from bad crops. You do not want those kinds of oils, as those can have adverse effects on your aromatherapy regimen.

Which oils to avoid: Read the labels very carefully when selecting essential oils. Does the label clearly state 100% oil? If they use any of the following words, steer clear: fragrance oil, perfume oil, and identical oil or nature oil. These are probably not pure essential oils but are instead mixed or highly diluted varieties. These will be cheaper, too. Also be aware of pure essential oil as they do not always mean this. It is a term that is often overused. They can be old or bad or even stored wrong.

Look at the bottles very carefully. The way the oils are stored is also very important. There are proper ways of storing essential oils. You want to buy oils that come in dark brown or amber colored bottles. It should not have a rubber stopper or lid. Lined aluminum bottles are also widely used and work well. Never buy oils stored in plastic or those that contain droppers. Steer clear of clear bottles as well. If oils are not stored correctly, the oils can become contaminated and won’t be as effective.
