These radiations may deflect in the room in which this procedure is carried out. Even though the radiation therapist is not present in the radiation room, during the radiation therapy, these radiations strike the other things in the room. These things may absorb them and then emit them later. Therefore, other things in the radiation room also emit some amount of radiation. These too, ad up to the risk factors for radiotherapists.

On the other hand, in the internal radiotherapy there is the use of a substance, which is radioactive. These substances are put in the body of the patient. This is done by dissolving them in water or some other solvent, or they have to be inserted in the body. During both these procedures, the radiotherapist is exposed to the radiations because of handling these substances. However, these emit the radiation in very low amount and they do not harm the people, who are exposed to them just once. However, they are risk factors for radiotherapists, as; the radiotherapists have to work with them throughout their career.
