Sonography is a technique in which, the use of the high-energy sound waves is involved, to achieve the images of the internal parts of the body. The sonographers are the specially trained professionals who do this kind of job. The doctors relay on these images for the diagnosis of certain health problems. Therefore, these images and the role of sonographers both are very important.
The role of sonographers is mainly taking the images. However, these images are to be of very good quality and they should be focused on the target organs. The role of sonographers consists of the using and properly handling the sonographic machine and equipments. They are responsible for handling of the controls and the operating conditions of the machine. They should properly adjust the strength and other factors concerned with the beam of the ultrasound waves, used in the sonography.
The overdose of the waves on a tissue that is being diagnosed can cause damage its composite cells. Therefore, the sonographer should not allow them, to pass the safety limit.
In addition to just obtaining the images, the role of sonographers is also concerned with the reviewing and interpretation of the images. This includes combining the images with the data from the other sources as the disease history and data obtained from reports of the other tests.
They also perform the primary assessment for the images. This may include deciding the quality of the images. They also need to find the technical details regarding the images and report to the doctors.
The role of sonographers also includes aiding the doctor in the diagnosis of the diseases is very important.
In addition to this, as the procedure of the sonography also includes the insertion of the transducers in the body of the patient, during it the patients may feel uncomfortable. This happens particularly when the transducer has to be inserted during the consciousness of the patient. Therefore, during this procedure, the role of sonographers includes communicating with the patient efficiently. For this, they need to make use of their interpersonal skills. Besides this, they should also make use of their knowledge about the internal structure of the body and see to it that, the patient does not feel any irritation or pain.
