Sonographer is a highly skilled person who performs medical diagnostic treatments. Sonographers have to deal with highly complex machines to perform ultrasound procedures. Thus, the role of sonographers is highly complex and it depends on nature of their work. The role of sonographers depends on their specialization such as an abdominal sonographer has to inspect patient cavity. Neuro-sonographers have to focus on human nervous systems including scanning brain and ophthalmologic sonographers have to scan eyes. This is done by inspecting prosthetic lenses and accurate calculations.

The Sonographers role in hospitals is quite complex and it requires basic qualifications and training. Most sonographers working in hospitals are well-qualified professionals; they are degree holders in their profession. Many universities and colleges are offering degree courses in sonography such as diploma in ultra-sonography, graduate diploma of applied science in medical sonography, master of applied science of medical ultra-sound etc these degree programs are semester based education programs

The sonographers in the hospitals have to take sonographic images, which involves several procedures such as taking monographic images, reporting these images to physician and taking precautions etc.

The Sonographers role in hospitals is important because they need to work for long time. Sometimes they require work for more than 40 hour per week. Additionally some sonographers in hospitals needed to work in the night shifts and they require being ready on short notice. Sonographers those are working for hospitals need to deal with medical equipments and they have to maintain the machine clean and hygienic. The work of sonographers in the hospitals can be understood by the fact that most sonographers have to travel by vans with sophisticated equipments. The work nature of sonographers is difficult since most sonographers have to perform their task on their feet for long periods and they have to lift or turn disabled patients.

Sonographers need to take some precautionary measurers such as taking care of transmission-based infections such as airbome, droplet and contact based infections etc. Thus, the Sonographers role in hospitals is quite difficult and it requires knowledge of several other diagnostic procedures.
