Sonography is a investigative medical technique that uses sound waves of high frequency to produce elaborate images of body organs, blood vessels and tissues. Sonography is used to study many parts of body like female reproductive system, abdomen, heart, prostate gland and circulatory system. Sonographers are extremely skilled professionals who use a specific equipment to create images of different parts of human body used by physicians to give accurate diagnosis.

Sonographers locate a small device known as transducer against patient’s skin near the body part which is to be captured. This transducer performs both the function as a loudspeaker and loudspeaker that means it transmits as well as receives sound waves.

Sonographers start their work by clearing up the process to the patient and recording any medical history related to the conditioned being observed. They perform all the procedures on diagnostic imaging machines in dark room.

Sonographers have to maintain a deep contact with a patient that helps them perform some very persistent procedures. They should interact sympathetically and efficiently with people who range from healthy to seriously sick

There are few important responsibilities of sonographers given below:

* They perform diagnostic actions and accordingly obtain diagnostic images

* They obtain the accurate records of patient’s history.

* They analyze the technical information

* They make autonomous judgment to identify the necessity for the extension of techniques according to diagnostic results.

* They give an oral and written summery of the technical results to the physician for medical diagnosis.

* They provide excellent patient care

* They are collaborated with physicians and other members of health care team.

Sonographers should take all the responsibility of the consequences that may arise due to the possible exposure to blood and other body fluids. Sonographers also assist in electronic, clerical scheduling, computerized image archiving and record keeping. They may also take the responsibilities of managers and supervisors if it’s needed.

They sometimes work as a contract employee and may travel to several health care centers in their area. Similarly, some of them work in mobile imaging service providers and travel to patients place with the mobile diagnostic tools.
