This treatment is also called as the systemic radiation therapy. The therapy shows quite good results in treating cancer tumors.

Besides killing the tumor, treatment stops further growth of the tumor inside the body. Radiation given in unsealed source radiation therapy is in liquid forms. These radiations are given either as drink or in capsule form. Some times radiation source is injected in to the veins of the patient. Injected radiation sources then circulate through out the body.

Eventually all sources show the results. Patients, who have had unsealed source radiation therapy, need to stay in special rooms at the hospitals for considerable days. After injection of the radiation sources, some amount of radioactive compounds will throw off the patient’s body in the form of sweat, saliva and urine. Some quantity of the sources will wash out within few days but until all the quantity wash out from the body patient have to take certain precautionary measures. In such cases radiation therapy team help patient.

Unsealed source radiation therapy is not at all painful as the sources are given in the form of liquid. Patient will not feel traveling of the radiation sources through the body. Sources given to drink do not have any test and smell. In some cases, the sources are given by intravenous injections with needle. While injecting them patients may become uncomfortable but once the needle is inserted, patient will not experience pain but only a slight amount of distress.

In some situations of unsealed source radiation therapy is given on an outpatient’s basis. In this case, patients can stay at home after having source. However, in such scenarios they have to take some precautionary measures at home. In these case physician frequently remains in contact with the patient.

Comparative to other radiation therapies unsealed radiation theory is easy for the patients. Unsealed source radiation therapy does not take much time, as there is no necessary of any planning and designing of the treatment. However, planning concern only with the amount of radiation does and time.
